Mini-Double Old Town vs. Mini-Double Town 2
The new City Mini Double 2 has a lot in common with its predecessor, but there are a few changes you should be aware of. The new pushchair has an adjustable leg rest, a recycled canopy, a different frame and the possibility to accommodate two basins. Below you see two versions with on the left the old City Mini Double and on the right the new City Mini Double 2.
The Baby Jogger started in 1984, when many new fathers wanted to walk with the baby, but could not find a suitable pram. These guys made the first jogging moped. Today, Baby Jogger produces a range of pushchairs (most of which are not suitable for jogging). The company was sold to Newell Rubbermaid in 2005 and they continue to design and sell popular strollers.
Equation of performance
Easy to use
City Mini generally offers an average user-friendliness compared to the competition.
The foldable City Mini is easy to use thanks to its easy-to-handle handles.
Folding and unfolding
City Mini pretends to unfold after removing the seatbelts. We don’t know for sure, but compared to our competitors it is very easy and we are impressed by the process. After removing the seat belts, lift the fabric handle in the middle of the seat.
You need two hands bending in the middle, and he’s standing, and a car lock. It can be easily unfolded with two hands and has two steps, with half the fold at the end. We warn parents to double-check if they have fastened their seatbelts and left them open.
The brake pedal of the City Mini is not made of sandalwood or barefoot.
City Mini has one-way brakes that are easy to install and difficult to unlock. It is almost impossible to brake with your foot under the pedal and you will injure yourself barefoot or with a sandal if you try. Some testers reach out, which is not a reasonable solution.
City Mini has virtually no useful access to a storage basket under the seat with a cross bar and a middle bar that blocks the widest openings.
The storage bunker is a flop compared to its competitors. It is medium sized and difficult to access from all angles. He’s got access from the back and both sides, but we couldn’t fit in. He’s 10 pounds, but it would be better if he had a bigger bag or more groceries.
The City Mini’s rear pockets provide storage space for water bottles or quickly accessible items such as mobile phones or car keys, almost compensating for the lack of cup holders or parental control.
The City Mini also has a large mesh pocket on the back of each seat. The bags contain 2 pounds, so the total weight once stored is 14 pounds. We were able to store the water bottle, the bottle and some kinds of cups for the toddlers in our bags in the back of the seat.
The City Mini has two Peek-a-Boo windows on the awning, each with folding wings with Velcro.
Each seat has an awning so that each child can meet his or her needs. They are wide and close the knee when fully open. They have medium sized plastic windows with Velcro closure. The awnings can be rotated or lowered at the rear so that the ventilation covers the folded backrest.
The pictures above show the differences between a mini with vertical backrests and closed awnings and a mini with fully reclining backrests and fully open awnings.
The City Mini clasp is the same as the one in Baby Jogger City’s double monster.
The five-point belts of the City Mini are identical. They can be placed and removed very easily. The new shoulder straps have four different levels with a wingspan of five centimetres. The crotch strap is adjusted in one position. The belt can be easily tensioned by pulling on the straps. For the buckle, the parts must be removed manually from the buckle because the straps do not come out by themselves.
The stroller has soft cushions for feet that fall on a sufficiently wide step, but the rest is not adjustable for a more comfortable nap. The tilt function is identical for each chair and has an infinite number of angles. The tilt can only be set with one hand for installation and upward movement. This stroller also has a retractable cover for unexpected weather conditions.
City Mini can be used with a car seat of different brands if you buy adapters to install the car seat.
Compatibility with car seats
Mini approves various car seats from Baby Jogger, Cybex, Graco and Maxi-Cosi. We tested it with Graco Click Connect 35, Graco Click Connect 40 and Maxi-Cosi Mico Max 30.
For each seat, the cover of the Mini must be removed in order to fit the car seat correctly, but none of the adapters must be fitted. All seats are supported by adapters, but none are easy to assemble. Graco seats are the most difficult, because one side clicks in smoothly, while it is almost impossible to stand on the other side. Maxi is better, not great, and he feels safe. It’s hard to say that we recommend one of these places because they are all on the hard side, but if you have to have one, Maxi is the easiest to use.
The installation of the City Mini Double took just over eight minutes. The manual is average and not as good as the other manuals for Baby Jogger runners. Mounting the visors is the hardest part, but you don’t need any tools.
The City Mini’s twin front wheels are not the best designed for easy manoeuvring, as the wheels can get stuck on small things and deviate from course.
City Mini offers below-average manoeuvrability with plastic wheels that are difficult to push and turn.
The front swivel wheels of the City Mini can be locked for easy driving over rough terrain.
City Mini works better on flat terrain than rough terrain. It is narrow in front of the side panel with wheels that are no wider than the frame so that it can fit through most doors. Unfortunately we are not big fans of foam-filled tires and we think they give the whole thing even more momentum. It is much more difficult to push the stroller on grass and gravel and the construction of the double front wheel tries to make it deviate from its track. You can lock the swivel wheels to prevent this, but you will not be able to turn without locking the front wheels.
City Mini has the second smallest turn in the group, and it resists and freezes automatically.
Weight and bending angle
If you are looking for both a small and lightweight stroller, this may be a good option. While most test results showed that a product of average size, average weight and bending category improved Mini’s overall result due to its light weight and small size. The City Mini weighs 27.8 pounds, making it one of the lightest options. The miniature size is 10,971 cubic centimetres and is therefore one of the smallest folding possibilities.
City mini is manufactured with high quality materials at a reasonable price.
The mini-city offers slightly better quality than the competition. The Baby Jogger tends to be good enough to inspire confidence without making a stroller too expensive for the average family. City Mini is no exception to this standard with materials and components that look and feel durable.
The fabric of the figurine is smooth and supple, with finely woven cloths on the seats. It offers better padding than other Double Baby Joggers, and the combination of materials doesn’t seem very breathable. The fabric is wrapped around the frame to support the feet and awnings. The fabric is easy to wipe and dries relatively quickly. The footrest seems to be a stronger material. The fabric of the storage basket is similar to that of the seat, but slightly thicker with mesh sides. The net’s loose, and it was caught in our tests.
The chassis of the Mini is simple and robust, with a pleasant surface that is not inconspicuous or conspicuous. The overall fit and finish of City Mini is comfortable, without excess, and all materials and parts are combined with a finished look that is not lumpy.
The City Mini has a fixed, rubberized steering wheel. This is only average comfort and we fear that the black rubber will heat up in the sun. In addition, the grooved rubber is rough on long journeys. The bar has a central section that cuts it in half, which makes it difficult to push it with one hand, and we think we can do some design work, since the competition hasn’t split the bar. This babyjogger has no adjustable front suspension. The hard-wearing seat upholstery will also help to create a comfortable driving atmosphere.
If the car seat is fitted to the City Mini, movement problems may occur depending on the model of car seat used.
City Mini accepts only one child seat and although it is compatible with many different brands, it is not the best choice for twin babies if only one seat is installed. This will work for older twins because both seats offer the same driving experience and functions and children are less likely to argue about who sits where. So, what do we do with the twins? You can install a car seat and take another child with you in a pram. You can also buy a nice double frame stroller, such as the Joovy Twin Roo+, to carry two babies in car seats. This stroller can be used for the first 9 to 12 months of his life and has a very reasonable price of only $ 130.
