Beco Gemini is a baby carrier with a soft structure, suitable for babies from 7 to 35 pounds. This support can be used at the front, on the back or as an option for wearing on the hip. The Beco model has a width-adjustable seat, a belt pocket, soft shoulder straps and the possibility of washing in the washing machine. Although this baby carrier is more comfortable for parents than some other soft textures, it is not as comfortable for your baby, and many of our little testers reported discomfort during testing. The Beco model has a limited fit, which makes it difficult to find a good fit, and the design fits well with the limited space available for the baby. There are easier and cheaper airlines of this type, which would be easier for most parents.
Our analyses and test results
Beco was founded in 2005 by Gabby Caperon. Gabby’s design solutions have created a basis of admiration that modern parents consider functional and elegant. Beco produces four different types of soft structured media.
Equation of performance
Most small testers have somehow emphasized their discomfort when using Beco.
Beco is not the most comfortable option for a child. Earn the lowest points for the comfort of the children in the group. The child seat is adjusted by changing the parents’ safety belts. So there is only a limited possibility to increase comfort or change position by adjustment. This change also affects the position of the headrest, making it difficult for older children to sit in the chair. Our former test passengers said verbally that it hurts to be in Gemini, which is easy to believe given the small size of the carrier.
The seat width of the Beco is adjustable depending on the type of transport and the size of the passenger.
The width of the seat depends on the position of the handle and to some extent on the size of the child. The adjustment must be made before the baby is placed in the sling. So if you make a mistake, you should probably start over.
Some testers will notice that the soft parts of the sling are too short and can dig themselves into flat areas under the weight of the baby.
Beco is comfortable enough with its competitors. Parental comfort is just above average, with nice soft shoulder straps and a hip belt. Shoulder padding, however, is no longer usable for heavyweights (most fathers), so you still have a simple harness that carries the child’s weight in certain positions. Some testers also found this feeling more restrictive than other soft-structured carriers, and this feeling increased with the size of the passengers.
Some functions of Beco are easy to use, but the general settings are more complex than with comparable products.
Easy to use
Beco is more difficult to use than comparable competitors. Beco is relatively intuitive, but you will probably need a guide to adjust the seat width. The manual is correct, but contains many pictures that are interesting to help you understand how to use the manual. You can put it on, but there are lighter, softer and more textured backpacks that you can wear and adapt to a child, like in BabyBjorn One. To be honest, however, the lifts are much simpler and therefore much easier to handle than the flexible construction.
Beco has a pocket with Velcro on the belt (top left). It’s not a big bag, but it may contain smartphones and possibly your keys. The clamps have a safety mechanism (top right) which you need to get used to and which may require two hands. They are not necessarily difficult to use, but there is a learning curve.
Bacon must be hung to dry and it is harder to find clean bacon.
Beco’s not so easy to keep clean. Four is the lowest score in the group. The twins can be washed in the car, but you can only use cold water and have to hang them up to dry. This way of drying can take longer than you have for your next adventure, so you’ll have to do it without carriers. Worse than drying on the gallows, but the stain removal capabilities are poor. If you need to clean up quickly on the way, it may be more difficult to clean the equipment and the area will be dry longer.
