The Graco Dream Suite is a two-in-one product with a changing table under the sleeping surface. This convenient function requires the cradle to be turned upside down, resulting in an error in the construction of the chronically inclined lying surface. This tilt can cause babies to roll, and the mattress is so hard that it contributes to an uncomfortable construction. Although this cradle is attractively priced and looks cute, it contains too much fabric and too little mesh around the sleeping area, which can affect breathability. Overall, the disappointing design choices and inferior materials make the Dream Suite a cradle that we believe needs to be improved.
Our analyses and test results
s
Compared to most of its competitors, the Dream Suite seemed to lack materials and functions that could not be fully justified.
In 1942, two men named Russell Grey and Robert Cohen founded Graco in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They started producing car parts. Years later, Gray decided to leave the company and Coan hired an engineer to produce baby stuff. Graco’s first product was a baby swing, inspired by a colleague who used an open glider to soothe a crying newborn. Graco has quickly grown to become the world’s largest manufacturer of baby products with a variety of strollers, feeding chairs, walking frames and much more.
Equation of performance
The change mechanism in Dream Suite requires some training and never moves as easily as we think.
Easy to use
Suite Dream scored a perfect average for ease of use. This cradle can also become a reserve station if you turn the sleeper upside down. Tilting is done with a handle at the foot end of the bed and moves without much effort.
Availability
Less space means you can use this crib next to the bed, but the lower height of the lying surface means you have to sit in the bed to reach your child. This cradle is not a real cradle where you can reach your baby when he falls asleep.
The wheels of the Graco Dream Suite are on the short side, making it difficult to go from one floor to the other.
Portability/mobility
This product is small and light with four lockable wheels. These features make it very easy to move from room to room and possibly up and down the stairs. However, it is not suitable for the journey and must be disassembled for transport.
DO NOT move the cradle with the baby on board. Because of the risk of injury in a traffic accident, the cradle should never be moved with a child still in it. Even if your child is asleep, we recommend that you resist the temptation to move the cradle with your child inside.
Additional functions
This bass guitar has a baseplate (top left) which you can use when you turn the bass guitar over (top right). It offers two levels of vibration designed to help calm the child while he sleeps. It is also equipped with a filter hood with two cuddles hanging on board.
Easy installation
The installation of this product took about 26 minutes. The installation is not complicated, but the instructions are difficult to follow. Despite the signed pictures we still don’t know what’s going on. Since it has a reversible changing station, it is very important to mount the product correctly. We had the greatest difficulty connecting the last pivot in the lower basket and thought there should be more details in the guide on how to do this.
Cleaning
The mattress cover is removable and can be washed in the car. The rest of the crib and frame cloths are cleaned with mild soap and water. Removing stains can really clean the net and sleeping area if the baby vomits or has breathing problems.
The quality and functionality of Dream Suite did not impress during testing.
Respiratory capacity
Dream Suite got one of the lowest scores in the breathing group. Most of the sleeping area consists of fabric side walls with small mesh inserts near the baby’s head. This design simulates the bumpers of cots that pose a potential risk to SIDS. As a result, the Dream Suite is less breathable than competitive products with sturdy mesh sidewalls. We think it’s best if the whole sleeping area is surrounded by a net without dust, just in case the baby comes into the crib and is pressed against the dust.
Although the Dream Suite has mesh panels, it’s not quite mesh and has almost as much fabric as mesh, which we find disappointing because it might compromise breathability.
Lying surface
The Dream Suite got a slightly lower average score for the sleeping surface. The results of our compression tests show that this mattress compresses more than most of its competitors.
Dream Suite has one of the most compressible cushions in the group.
Due to the vulnerability of the mattress, the baby probably feels the base of the cradle and is not very supported. The sleeping surface is not as stable as some people’s because the sleeping surface can be tilted.
The cushion of the Dream Suite is attached to the floor with a Velcro fastening to prevent it from sliding.
Due to the rotating nature of this product, it is slightly inclined in one direction and the baby can roll at an angle. However, it adapts seamlessly to the frame and does not move or shift.
The Dream Suite has a separate waste bin under the sleeping area.
Quality
Dream Suite received one of the lowest scores in the quality group. This product is not as stable as competing products because the cradle can be tilted by pressing on the side and tilting the cradle, resulting in continuous tilting. The base has a V-shaped pattern and swings back and forth, which can be useful for calming your baby down, but can also put pressure on the plastic connectors and damage them over time. The fabric and seams are the best parts of this product with a good fit of the frame and a soft touch. The mattress is heavy compared to the competition, which indicates poor quality and less comfort.
Environmental health
The Dream Suite is at the bottom of the list for this measure. Graco does not comment on its website regarding the use of fire-retardant chemicals in its products, which leads us to believe that they may use them. This cradle uses 95% polyester fibres and 5% polyethylene foam. This type of foam traditionally contains flame retardants and inorganic gases. The Centre for Environmental Hygiene (CEH) gave Graco an evaluation because it did not respond to chemical questions, although customer service responses indicated that Graco did not use them. Since most companies take pride in not using them, we find this strange and wonder if they use flame retardants in some of their products. This cradle is JPMA certified.
For several reasons, the environmental health classification of the suite is low. We have received no response from the company in direct contact, chemical flame retardants can be used and the mattress is made of polyurethane foam.
